- Ars Nova The 12 singers of Ars Nova have given more than a thousand concerts and
broadcasts throughout Scandinavia and Europe and in Israel, Japan, Brazil and Ghana. In
October 1999 the group will give a number of concerts in New York City. Ars Nova
specializes in Renaissance vocal polyphony and contemporary music and has made numerous
CDs. Most of these have been released by the Danish labels 'Kontrapunkt' and 'Dacapo'
while two others have come out on the 'Naxos' label. Ars Nova has worked with a number of
European early music specialists including Peter Philips and Bruno Turner. For the last 2
years the group has been working with Paul Hillier as a principal guest conductor. Two CDs
with Ars Nova and Paul Hillier featuring music by Jacob Obrecht and William Byrd will go
on sale later in 1999. In September 1999 the group works for the first time with the Dutch
musician Kees Boeke. The repertoire will be motets by John Dunstable. In 1991 Ars Nova won
the Danish Grammy Award for a recording of sacred music by Nicolas Gombert and in 1992 the
Diapason d'or (gold medal) award in France for best classical compact disc, a recording of

Friends Musick is a group of singers and instrumentalists who perform authentic
music from the 15th to early 17th centuries in period costume and who make a special point
of promoting public awareness, and contributing to the reconstruction of
Shakespeares Globe Theatre on the South Bank of the Thames in London. The ensemble
is associated with the Friends of Shakespeares Globe Theatre in London, England, and
also includes members of the Friends' Recorder
